Arranging a living room according to the latest trends
Often considered the heart of the home and the pride of the hosts, the living room is one of the most important rooms of every home. It is where you rest, receive guests and spend time with your family. How can make your living room stylish and trendy while preserving all of its functions? In the current season, it is easier than ever!
Colour with a capital C
Modern living room designs are increasingly often featuring bold colours. They add character to the interior and give you an opportunity to express yourself. If you are looking for luxury, you will find it in deep navy blue, dark green or sophisticated claret. Colours inspired by the hues of precious stones may appear on walls, accessories, and in this season also... on the ceiling. Just remember to use them prudently, without letting them dominate the interior. It is a good idea to combine them with equally trendy but more subtle colours, such as: powder pink, beige or sage green. Dark colours on the walls and accessories can be balanced out with a bright floor, for instance in white or grey hues. Do not shy from even bolder combinations. A living room exploding with colours is the hit of the season! The safe grey or white is going out of style, and if you want to use it, treat it as a neutral base for feisty orange, pink or coral. If you are afraid of such an intense mix of shades, try a design embracing a specific range of colours. This season’s hit, Spiced Honey, proclaimed the colour of 2019, combined with the subtle peach, latte, chocolate or the more intense terra cotta orange.
Nature captured within your walls
The proximity of nature puts us in a good mood and helps us relax. No wonder that nature-inspired motifs have been used in the design of our living rooms for a few seasons now. They can turn any cold suite in a city centre into a cosy, tranquil refuge. Raw stone and concrete, warm wood, organic fabrics, such as jute, rattan, and wicker, or glass – they are all perfect for a living room following the latest trends. Rattan chairs look excellent if you add linen cushions or cotton blankets with an interesting pattern. Jute or wool carpets help build a warm atmosphere, while concrete flower pots give an interior a loft-like feel. This season, the forgotten terrazzo, so far associated with Poland’s long gone communist era, is back in style. If you are afraid of letting it dominate your living room, you can just apply small terrazzo touches in the form of coffee table tops. If you are dreaming of a lavish living room where you can proudly receive guests, you can use elements inspired by the elegant marble, also trending this season. Unfortunately, porous and absorbent, it is a highly demanding material. You do not have to give up on “royal” floors, though – just replace traditional marble with its milled rock imitation, for example Lake Stone Lapatto from the Grand Concept collection. Coming in a number of formats, it will help you design a stylish but warm interior.
Eclecticism maximised
This season is definitely eclectic – bold accessories, a frenzy of colours, patterns and textures, a joyful mishmash of seemingly distant styles. And all this maximised. So do not restrain yourself! Combine, try and think out of the box. If you have been dreaming of a tuxedo- or Chesterfield-style velour couch forever, now is the time to make those fantasies come true, as they are consistent with the latest décor trends. Just like terrazzo, velour is returning as an iconic element that gives any room a retro-style chic. Going through current interior design magazines, you will notice it not only in sofa upholstery but also in lamps or in thick, heavy curtains with a dramatic effect.
Combine powerful accents with... other bold accents – geometric tile compositions on the walls will be an extravagant addition to any trendy living room. This season, vintage style enthusiasts can decorate their living rooms with chests of drawers from the 1970s or china figurines as they please. A large mirror in a gilded frame is an excellent accessory to optically enlarge the room and give it an elegant look. Instead of a mirror, you can use an XL-sized art piece at a central point of the room. Whether it is a large painting sizzling with modernist colours or a classic landscape – it is up to you. Those feeling bold may arrange a 3D structure resembling an artistic installation, erected of milled rock tiles from the Newstone collection that imitate stone. The raw grey tone of the stone will calm the interior and give the living room an avant-garde look.
Great comeback of the 1970s
Inspirations based on the 1970s are among the hottest trends in interior design. Renovated chests of drawers, dressers, cabinets and tables from that period are now a stylish must have for every living room. Decorated with subtle geometric patterns or painted in powerful colours, they attract the eye with their timeless form and original finishing. Do not forget about the most popular decoration from the Polish communist era – pot plants. Ferns, Chinese money plants or palms can enliven any interior. If you do not have enough room for them, think about metal or wooden plant hangers to be placed on the wall for your visual enjoyment. Instead of sharp edges, choose softer edges for your lounge suite. Rounded armchairs, togo-style sofas or chairs with armrests of bent wood will fill your living room with an idyllic atmosphere conducive to relaxation. Remember about a round or cylindrical coffee table and enjoy an exquisite and stylish while also comfortable and functional room. Do not overly worry whether particular pieces of furniture represent the same style. Boldly combine various models of chairs, armchairs or couches. Perfectly matched living rooms sets are a thing of the past. However, pay attention to the type of floor that you choose. A wooden floor could prove impractical, especially if you pick heavy chests of drawers or cabinets. In that case, try Grand Wood tiles, which combine the beauty of the natural material with the durability of milled rock.
